Rev3 Portland Training Update

I'm coming into week 10 this week---halfway through my training cycle.  NUTS!  I feel like I just started.  I thought this would be a good post to recap weeks 1 -9 in terms of numbers.  I always like to see where I've been...it gives me extra confidence as I get into the intense weeks ahead.

Before the recap, I HAVE to share some photos from this weekend.  We FINALLY have gorgeous weather for both saturday and sunday!  Like 80 degree nice weather. It was amazing.  I went for my first outdoor ride of the season.  Yup, I'm a total wuss and won't ride outside unless it's a) not raining and b)above 60!   It was a great low key ride where I didn't worry about pace too much but concentrated on getting used to the roads, traffic, clipping in/out again...etc.
Yay sunshine!
Along the Columbia with Mt. Hood in the background, pretty amazing.

Today was a run day with my favorite running buddy Jen.  This girl is a great running partner for so many reasons but today it was her knowledge of all the bathrooms/drinking fountains.  Emphasis on drinking fountains for me today.  Dare I say, I got a little WARM!  Readers of this blog know that I'm a warm weather girl but today even I was a little too warm.  Guess that means more early morning running.  (Which is fine I'm a morning person and I was up at 6:30 today anyway =)).

Springwater trail

Belly bump and ridiculously high water belt (we joked that it was like a heartrate monitor!)

Halfway!

DONE!  8 miles in the books.  I was planning to go a little further but was so hot I decided to call it a day =).  Yup, I stopped b/c I was too hot, this is rare and also kinda awesome.  Yay SUMMER!

Onto to weeks 1-9 recap.  Here are the totals:
Running: 185 miles
Biking: 36 hours 15 minutes
Swimming: 32,850 yards (18.6 miles)

Not to shabby if you ask me! I'm still in build phase which means the second half of my training will likely have numbers HIGHER than those!

While I'm tired I also feel pretty strong.  We'll see what happens when I start putting all this training into action at various upcoming races.

  3. Nice work! Building towards a half is always interesting as you've got these crazy totals, and you sometimes think: "How on Earth would someone train for a race twice as long as this?" You've done exceptionally well, especially for what is still base mode going into the first big build. Go get 'em!

  5. Get some rest! That's a lot of good miles, and it will pay off in the long run. Just be sure you're getting enough sleep.
